All we’re talking about is change in volume – the Deep Space Pulsar doesn’t affect your tone in any way, and sounds great with bass guitar!

Whatever way you use it, this sidechaining effect has NEVER been so easily available – and controllable – as with the Deep Space Pulsar! Two presses of the Igor programs a tempo (the ‘record’ LED coming on to show that the tempo is being recorded and it’s waiting for the second press), and at any point that tempo can be adjusted to bring it back into sync with the music, enabling the pulsing to stay in time for long periods.

Pressing on Igor for 1 second erases the tempo, for you to start again at a different tempo.

Or alternatively trigger it from a gate signal voltage! If you play shoegaze, doom/heavy/psychedelic rock, or ambient music it’s a fantastic tool for making a powerful base note to play over. Maybe you play in a two piece band? Then it’s essential! You’re a solo electric guitarist making sonic textures?…. You improvise over an atmospheric backing? The Drone Rainger is for you!

The guitar signal and the drone signal are independently mixed through the same delay circuit (about 1 second maximum repeat time), with a totally dry guitar switching option. There are actually two analogue tone generators inside the Drone Rainger making up the sound – one with a 12-way selector switch, the other free-moving – so that when they’re tuned nearly the same, you get interesting ‘beats’ created between the two of them. Blend them to suit using the ‘mix’ knob.

EXTRA FOOTSWITCHES:
The drones also have two instantaneous effects that can be switched in with a footswitch while you play guitar; one is a ‘tone-down’ pitch dropping effect – making the pitch sag in a truly ominous way! The other is a white noise burst – made by the delay chip – that echoes away into the distance…

It’s also possible to set the pedal to produce two separate notes – and to footswitch between the two while you play, which is extremely useful if the song you’re playing has a section with a different base note or a key change. And if you’re playing along to music that isn’t stictly tuned to pitch, you can adapt using the pedal’s ‘fine tune’ knob.

Like all our stompboxes, it’s housed in a custom-designed enclosure – this one a distinctive desk-style with seven sides.

There are actually two analogue tone generators inside the Drone Rainger making up the sound - one with a 12-way selector switch, the other free-moving - so that when they’re tuned nearly the same, you get interesting 'beats’ created between the two of them. Blend them to suit using the 'mix’ knob.

EXTRA FOOTSWITCHES:
The drones also have two instantaneous effects that can be switched in with a footswitch while you play guitar; one is a 'tone-down’ pitch dropping effect - making the pitch sag in a truly ominous way! The other is a white noise burst - made by the delay chip - that echoes away into the distance…

It’s also possible to set the pedal to produce two separate notes - and to footswitch between the two while you play, which is extremely useful if the song you’re playing has a section with a different base note or a key change. As you turn it more, this delay time gradually increases - to around eight seconds maximum, until at fully CW it never actually comes in at all, ie in practice you can turn off that effect totally if you only want distortion.

Chorus Or Reverb
Press the ‘effect’ switch and the chorus sound is replaced by a spectacular digital reverb effect!

So with lots of short notes (eg fast soloing) the guitar is totally dry all the time, but intense and powerfully distorted. It’s incredibly fun and dynamic to play through!

However with the next note you play it dramatically snaps off hard - back to totally dry, close, and focussed. So the listener’s attention is drawn from up-close and in-your-face to a more distant reverbed sound - and then back; just as in film-making, a ‘pull focus’ leads the viewers attention from a face close by (a further-away face being blurred) to a face further away (the close-by one now being blurred).

The Pull Focus pedal is a very ‘3D’ effect, your guitar automatically moving from near to far away in an original and exciting way.

There’s a dual-purpose ‘effect’ knob, which - when using chorus - adjusts the speed of the modulation. When using reverb though this knob decides the depth and size of the reverberation. This goes from a cavernous effect right down to an almost-not-there small room-y thing; great for when you don’t want the obvious reverb mushroom cloud, but you’d like your long-held notes to seem…. somehow extra profound! It’s based on the excitement of plugging an overdrive pedal after a reverb pedal; it’s ‘wrong’, but everything you play sounds huge and epic, exaggerated and full of texture and detail… Here, an overdrive circuit – after the reverb – can be blended in via the ‘Distn’ knob. Have it totally clean, a bit gritty, quite rough, or dial in a fully burnt-out glow.

At all times, however, the input signal is unaffected; if you already use an overdrive pedal, the Reverb-X can add a whole new dimension of distortion to your sound! If your tone is clean however, it stays clean – no matter how much distorted reverb you dial in.

Usually though, in this situation when you stop playing, the hum from your cable alone would be as loud as the notes you were playing! So you have to have a noise gate involved…

NOISE GATE
The noise gate is post reverb and distortion. With it switched on it opens when you play, and closes hard when you stop, cutting off any reverb that’s happening – giving an incredibly dramatic and original effect. Sure, it’s a gated reverb, but play a long riff and the gate stays open, giving the full reverberation as set by the ‘Size’ knob. Stop playing and the whole thing is shut down, giving a tight control over it – like a hard-edited ‘sample’.

The ‘input’ control and ‘Overload’ LED ensure that the output is always as loud – and clean (if desired) – as possible. The ‘Out’ knob has plenty of spare output volume on tap.

IGOR
Plug in the Igor expression pad and you get no reverb at all. However as you start to lean on it the signal gets diverted to the waiting reverb pathway, and a bloom of reverberation grows behind whatever notes you’re playing. Take your foot off of Igor and you go back to fully dry – but the reverb decays on its own.

Or have the ‘Gate’ switch in, and the added reverb is cut short, like some twisted dub-meister at the controls, messing with everyone’s depth perception….

The two types of reverb available are set to cover the widest range of musical situations as possible.
